We are delighted to announce that EWA has been awarded an Oxford Social Sciences Exchange Fellowship to support our colleague Dr Alberto Yanosky's engagement with Indigenous ecological knowledge for conservation initiatives in Paraguay for two months this year.

A new paper in Ambio argues that to be successful, the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity should fully embrace Indigenous Peoples’ and local communities’ rights and agency in biodiversity management.

On 28 October 2020 EWA's co-founder and Research Director Andrew (Andy) Gosler was made Professor of Ethno-ornithology in the University of Oxford, UK. We are delighted to have this affirmation of our work building EWA together as a place to share stories of people, birds and place, putting ethno-ornithology on the map. Oxford is proud to host the first Professor of Ethno-ornithology in the world.

We were devastated to hear of Colin Wilkinson's recent death from Coronavirus. As well as a good friend and dedicated conservationist, Colin was a hugely talented graphic designer and artist. This is wonderfully demonstrated by the fact that in response to the briefest request from EWA Research Director Andy Gosler, Colin designed the EWA logo in a weekend. This was typical of Colin; hugely generous in giving up his time to help others in support of the birds and their conservation.
