2.2.17 PERSIAN - PERSAN |
Most of these names are taken from dictionaries. Their definition is vague, incomplete or erroneous; often a name is attributed to several species that have no relation between themselves (ex. xul "kite, lark, francolin, a white sandpiper". A "woodcock" may be any long-billed shorebird, but evidently not the the Woodcock proper. The "yellow bunting" is certainly the Black-headed Bunting. Many of these names are translations of European names such as angir-xvar for French "becfigue", or sometimes mere calques like suturnak "sturnus"; in this case one should take care not to see any linguistic correlation.
