México Bobo de pies azules Bobo de pies azules.- bobo, tonto, zonzo. "bubia" is bookish, from the English booby, itself from the Spanish or Portuguese bobo. The latter was a sailor's name for the birds of this genus, perhaps for their spectacular vertical dives in the water in quest of fish, interpreted by the sailors as some "crazy" antics. The term bobo or booby as a bird name is not found in the languages of Europe. Booby or bubi has been conserved in some Caribbean islands.
